So let’s get down to business today we are reviewing the Movie ‘Stories To Tell In The Dark’ directed by andré øvredal. This Movie is pretty new out of the charts (released 2019)  and maybe one that has slipped under the radar of people as I don’t personally recall this being advertised prior to launch, this movie is horror / mystery / Thriller.

Small Snippet: The Movie starts back in halloween in 1968, when Stella who portrays a recluse young girl and her 2 close friends find a mysterious character Ramón who is from out of town and not known to anyone. Now with the 4 of them they discover a personal notebook that is full of sinister stories. This movie starts very quickly and straight away you have that sense of dread when they Stella and her 2 friends make a quick escape and end up sitting in Ramón’s car. As the tale further unfolds you witness the intense, scary and dark themes that run throughout. This Movie contains; Flashing images, Dark themes, vivid characters and a bold narrative. The Movie has a runtime of: 108 minutes.

The Storyline: The Movie is based back in 1968 in an American small town called Mill Valley, all the locals of the town know about the ‘Bellows’ family and this has been something that has loomed ever since. The story of the bellows involves a daughter called Sarah who was a young girl who held some very dark secrets. Sarah was tortured in the family mansion situated just on the outskirts of the town, Sarah turned the horrific events she had faced and wrote them in a book in the means of scary stories. When Stella and her group breaks into the mansion and discover the actual book that Sarah has written it gets a little close to home for the group as the stories within become a lot more real and a lot more deadly. Can Stella and her group get to the bottom of this? Can they get rid of the book? Or put it back where it belong..

Our Views: This Movie grips you from the very beginning, the narrative throughout is very strong and easy to understand. The Movie is fast paced, and gets quite dark and jumpy in parts too. The characters are played very well indeed, and the effects and imagery throughout is very vivid and lifelike. As watching this Movie I felt like I was taken back to my childhood days with the TV series ‘Are You Afraid Of The Dark’ of course this was a lot more of a grown ups version. You instantly connect with the characters and at parts are shouting at the TV screen to try and stop the characters doing the wrong thing. This Movie is very enjoyable, well written and has just that perfect balance of dark/gore and horror. Some parts are quite comical.

Final Thoughts: Personally I would say this Movie is worthy of a brilliant night in cuddled up with the curtains closed and lights off. This Movie will appeal to most audiences due to the strong narrative and easy to understand storyline along with the very lifelike characters. The effects used in this Movie are brilliant and does look very real indeed. I also like that the Movie is set in olden times which makes this that little bit different from the new age horror flicks. I just wished they carried on the storyline. With saying that the Movie ends on a cliff hanger and room to add a sequel. If you love a Movie that is clear, precise and grips you from the off – then this Movie is sure to a treat for you, mix that with the added dark scenes and horrific and somewhat disturbing images.

Hello fellow, film lovers so last nights film was ‘PET’ we thought we would give it a shot! I wasn’t too sure what to expect. A lot of films like this sound promising in their synopsis and then turn out to be bland, cliché-ridden, run-of-the-mill rubbish!. The film does start pretty quickly, but even so you still don’t really understand what the underlying message really is apart from the film starts off with a male stalker who works for a vets institution who is  trying to get this girl to go out with him, then after the failed attempts, he then decides to go down the ‘Kidnapping route’ Then things get really interesting, the majority of the rest of the film, then focuses on the underground basement/room where he has captured the girl. People may think it will turn a little like SAW in someparts which is partly true just not as Gory, I mean yeah OK chopping a finger off, and killing another person and then chopping them up to the feed the dogs – yeah that’s pretty gruesome but that was about it in terms of SAW-Like stuff we saw.

I think overall the film was OK, it did have its tense moments, also there is a plot twist in the middle of the film, where you don’t feel as sorry for the captured girl (I won’t go into details here, because I don’t want to spoil it for the ones who haven’t seen this as of yet), also the weird, sadistic love story is strange to say the least! On the whole the film leads up to a very well done final scene. I honestly had no idea how they were going to finish the film, but the way they chose to do it was a good ending in my opinion. ‘Pet’ is a very fine movie that will please thriller lovers endlessly, but also may bore some in the interim.

So it’s that time again, film time, we don’t open on Sundays so today was our closest day to blog about it, but as always myself and partner sat down to our daily evening film and we decided to watch; The Good Neighbour – Now normally this really isn’t my cup of tea at all because I cannot stand Camcorder films not sure why but they just make things look a little low budget (apart from Cloverfield which I LOVED) and a little amateur!

Anyway for some reason this film did catch my eye, so I thought lets give it a shot..

So here is my personal review on ‘The Good Neighbour’

So basically the film is about – The Good Neighbour has both drama and suspense as standard the film is a crime-thriller. It reminded me a bit of “I Am Not a Serial Killer”, it is written and filmed in an extraordinarily sophisticated  style and will exceed most viewers initial expectations, as i stated earlier EVEN for me as I normally don’t do camcorder films!

There are teen friends, one whom has wealth and technical expertise at his disposal and his eyes on MIT, and his friend who has plenty of ingenuity and fortitude and interest in social research but is from a “broken home”. The pair undertake a social-psychological experiment, and use the grouchy, solitary old grump of the neighborhood as their unwitting subject. For their experiment, they equip the old grumps home with numerous hidden cameras and electrical devices in order to manipulate the grumps home appliances, fixtures, gadgets and such. They are then able to remotely control and view everything that occurs, pretty technical right!?

They soon realize that the old man is a rather unusual subject. He has a basement securely locked from the outside, a mysterious visiting woman, no apparent fear towards the extreme tactics they make to convince him he’s haunted, and he’s unpredictability violent and destructive. One teen begins to regret conducting the experiment, the other one is determined that the old man is hiding a dark secret, personally I thought he was either torturing someone or keeping them held hostage.. The teens watch, record and attempt to manipulate the old man for weeks in hopes of revenge, online views, and uncovering the old mans secrets.

Throughout the film there are segments where a prosecutor speaks to and interrogates different people on the witness stand. This makes it clear that the “experiment” didn’t play out so well. This film had me hypothesizing and thoroughly engaged, the whole film kept my mind guessing what was the actual plot and drama of it, as it was unclear, as it kept going back to a court case, so we knew someone was in trouble but for what ?

This film is well worth a watch, I personally loved it! It was very cleverly written and performed, and the fact it was a camcorder film well that just wins it for me. Maybe watch this one, its starts pretty much straight away and has a simple storyline to follow, you can also relate to the characters of the movie (always good)
